Scrolling through twitter feed, liking a picture, texting a friend. Everything seems so nature and frictionless in today's standard. Radio waves carrying all the information through the air but no one really cared about it. Until it stops working...

This is the exact problem that scientist and researchers have encountered when it comes to communications underwater. So, since the first time human started explore the world underwater, people used sound waves to communicate with each other. People use analog acoustic wave to transmit human speech across the water. In fact, it is still used in today's submarine communication systems.

However, analog acoustic signals are not that reliable and very hard to hear underwater. Naturally, when people found out about digital communication, they implemented the digital communication systems with underwater acoustic waves.

[why the chip enabled underwater solution is not enough]

Today, with more computing power in hand, we are now able to demodulate the signals faster and faster with much more flexibility in terms of CRC algorithm, modulation schemes, or even protocols.

Because the cost of updating a software is significantly lower than updating hardware, therefore I'm a firm believer that the software will be the future of communication systems.
